Happy 100th Post!

When I signed up for Blogger more than a year ago and created Beauty by Lindsay, I was looking for a way to force myself into the world with my writing. An outlet for all the extra stuff that was slamming around inside my cranium! An extension of the me I knew was still trying to find her way!

What I have found is so much more. I never could have imagined I would be where I am now...a part of an ever-growing beauty-blogging community, engaging in conversations with beauty-junkies from everywhere! And I have found a confidence in myself I never knew you know how long it took me to actually TELL people I wrote a blog!?!? Hahaha!

And I have found a renewed passion for my career as a hair stylist/makeup artist! This has been such an awesome year! I have had such encouragement from people in all arenas, I am just so grateful! And with my youtube channel in addition to the blog, I am really so inspired and excited about what I'm doing! I think I have become a much better mother and wife, too, because I know I am finding fulfillment in all aspects of my life and am actually DOING something that I really feel good about! Holla!

As we set about the end of year celebrations, i just want to pause and say thank you for all of your support, to friends old and new....cheers to a fabulous new year, with lots more Beauty by Lindsay to come!
And I don't think I ever showed you my Halloween costume! Fake lashes, fake hair...all fun! Xoxo L

Too-Much Tuesday

Haha this wasn't actually from today, but I wanted to show you an eye look I tried the other day. Maybe I will start doing a weekly theme!

I was using a cream shadow base, then some MUCH stronger colors in a way higher quantity than I normally use! (Bright sparkly blue from NYX and black black Carbon from MAC!)

Lets just say this is not a look I will be wearing to run errands in, though I think it certainly looks hot!

I guess it's never too much if you've got the right sort of event to attend, right?! Buuuut, for this chicky, it is a bit ott (over the top!)

Cheers to playing with major smoky eyes with ultra-glam poses hahaha!

Fab and Fast: 5 Minute Updo

The main ingredients for a super-fast updo? Teasing brush, hairspray, bobby pins and SPIN PINS! These little beauties were so inexpensive but I have used them so much! I got mine at Walmart, but you can find them anywhere!

For step-by-steps, watch this!

Wishing this app allowed me more control, like I have over my hair!

Easy Green, Smoky Eye!

This was the easiest, colorful (well, it's not super colorful, it is a dark green!) smoky eye! I used MAC shadows for this look.

After priming my lids, I applied Bottle Green all over my lid just up to my natural crease line. Next, I smudged Carbon just around the edges of the green, including at the lash line, and extending the outer corners slightly. I added dimension by sweeping Cork above the smoky crease, and highlighted my brow bone and inner corner with Shroom. I patted a little more of the green over the center of the lid to define the colored part more.

Black liquid liner and several (like, eleven!) coats of blackest-black mascara finished this awesomely smoky-but-not-too-smoky eye! Perfect for a little added snazziness for the holiday season, or just a night out on the town! Or running errands with your four-year-old, just sayin'!

This is an easy way to incorporate some color without feeling like Rainbow Brite (yay to mental flashback to my youth!) Any color will do! Go ahead and play!

Cheers to smoke and mirrors!

Green Monster

Every once in a while, you need to pack on a little ol' school Queen Helene Mint Julep mud mask!

First, I cleansed with a liquid scrub from Neutrogena Naturals. Next, I applied a generous amount of the mud mask all over my face, avoiding the delicate eye area (haha, I love how every product we use says this on the package!)

I let the mask rest for several minutes, then wiped it off with a warm, wet cloth. I followed up with Arcona Cranberry Toner, Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Gel, Olay Night of Olay firming cream and Sukiface Eye Lift Cellular renewal cream. Phew!

Cheers to a beautiful night of beauty sleep!

Face of the Day!

Hope you all had a fab day! This is how I did my makeup for work today!

I used Benefit Pore-fessional pore minimizer, L'oreal True Match Lumi foundation, and Cover Girl TruBlend mineral bronzer on my skin.

On my eyes, I used L'oreal Telescopic liquid liner in dark brown, elf eyelid primer in champagne, elf jumbo eyeshadow sticks in little miss thing and rock out. Loads of black mascara and some finishing powder, and I was out the door!

It was a super-busy day at the salon, and my face lasted all the way into my evening! Now, it is time for some wine and pajamas, minus the makeup!

Cheers to making faces, one day at a time!

Beauty Island Must-Haves

You know how people ask, "if you we're stranded on a desert island...?" Well, these aren't necessarily beach-ready items, but they are the five must-have beauty necessities I would grab if I could only have five. Anywhere. Even if I was stranded at Walmart. Or Poughkeepsie. Never been there, but, I would still need these!

Blackest Black mascara. (My current is L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black)

Matte black eyeshadow. (MAC Carbon, obvs! Does double duty as a shadow or liner!)

Full-coverage concealer. (MAC Select Cover-up and Revlon Photoready are my first-line choices right now! Can take over for your foundation if need be!)

Golden bronzer, with a hint of shimmer. (Better than matte if you're looking for a bit of color and glow; Covergirl TruBlend Naturally Luminous Bronzer in Golden Sunrise rocks!)

Nude lipgloss. (My fave so far is MAC Lipglass in C-Thru. Smells delish, stays shiny and lasts a long time!)

What are some of your must-have makeup loves? Share below!

Before the After...

Ever wonder how everyone else looks when they hoist their tired booties out of bed? And just how unpretty things are before you get to "the after?!" Hang onto your hats, beauties! Things are about to get ug-ly!!

Some mornings, I feel like I look fabulous! Other mornings, it's like this...

Then things get a little better with a shower, some argan oil and a bit o' primer and spackle...

And then we get the finishing touches...

Ok, thanks to the wonder and magic of cosmetics and hair tools, I am ready to run errands with my tiny humans!

I hope you have enjoyed this full-facial nudity!! Now when you get up and catch a glimpse of yourself in the coffee pot at 5:45am, you will know you're not alone. I'm right there, girlfriend!

Cheers to making our days prettier!

Soft, pretty eyes

Hello, beauties! I have been experimenting with my new e.l.f. eye products! This is a soft, pretty eye look I created using a few of my faves!

First, apply the Eyelid Primer in champagne all over the lid and blend. Using your finger, apply their Cream Eyeshadow in candlelight along your browbone and on the inner corner of your eye. Blend well before it dries! Draw just above and into the crease of your eye with the Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick in rock out. Blend with your finger to soften.

I finished this eye look with a fine/medium line of black, liquid liner and several coats of black mascara for extra definition.

The rest of my face is most of my daily faves, including my Revlon Colorstay whipped foundation and bronzer/highlighter/blush from my NYX Haute Jersey palette.

So far, I am really enjoying the e.l.f. line. And I love the ease and softness of these cream eye products!

Cheers to making faces!

Ps. Don't forget to check out my beauty channel on YouTube for more super-fun goodies!

Eyes, lips, FUN!!!! (Or, e.l.f.!)

Ok, so I have this super-artistic photo on my iPad of all my new e.l.f. ( laymen terms, eyes lips face!) products, but I can somehow not figure out how to retrieve it for this posty-post!  Hmmmm. So, what shall I tell you and not show you?

I now hold in my beauty arsenal:

e.l.f. Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks
Check Me Out (a medium-deep, slightly metallic purple)
Midnight Rendezvous (a rich, shiny black, with a slight shimmer)
Rock Out (a shimmery, taupey nude)
Little Miss Thing (a light shimmery rose-gold hue)

Eyelid Primer in Champagne (a shimmery pink)

Cream Eyeshadows
     Candlelight (a light, shimmery yellow-gold)
Teal Party (a deep blue, teal with a shimmery gold background)

Corrective Concealer palette in neutralize and brighten

Eyelash curler

Natural Lash Kit

Dramatic Lash Collection

Two professional eye shadow brushes

Two powder brushes

Makeup remover wipes

Lotion wipes

Wow, that's a lotta stuff for one beauty bag!  It was all ridiculously affordable, too.  Everything I have experimented with has been pretty awesome,  slim looking forward to showing you some of my skills with my new tools!

Cheers to lengthy, wordy entries!

New Hair: Blonde Ambition

Here is the current state of my hair color transition!

My girl Emily foiled in some lovely blonde highlights through the top panel of my hair. This helps break up the regrowth line even more from where I stopped doing all-over color to lighten my base.

We were going to add a neutral lowlight as well, but we don't want to be darker, just more blended and blonde!

I also reshaped my fringe for fall. You know I'll probably just start growing it back out again! But it really helps give my style some definition, especially while I am transitioning to a longer style!

Thanks to my girls Emily and Amelia at the salon for helping me out today!

Cheers to step by steps for your hair!

New Hair: A Transition

You have probably noticed my ever-growing regrowth area lately! (Grammatically incorrect? Perhaps!) But you get my drift! I have been super-blonde for about the last year, which has taken its toll on my locks.

I stopped touching up my regrowth about eight weeks ago, and added a few fine, warm lowlights through the top panel and deepened the area below my occipital region.

Yesterday I added more lowlights, this time with a deeper, richer red-brown color. The overall result is a slightly darker, rich blonde with nice dimension.

My next steps will be adding a few neutral brown pieces that blend with my natural base color followed by strategic light blonde pieces for a pop of brightness!

It sounds like I have a "whole lot going on up there" (direct quote from Amelia from work!) but the end result I am looking for will still be an overall blonde look with lots of rich dimension and fabulousness!

Can't wait to show you my next steps! Stay tuned!

Cheers to transitional hair!

Ps: I am a professional hairstylist and colorist! Do not try this at home!!! xoxo

Driving Backwards. Wait, what!?

As a hairstylist, one of the things my clients ask about the most is how to get more lift or volume in their hair.  Another thing is how to make their hair look different without changing the length or color drastically ( hahahahahahaha!)

The easiest way to change things up without a huge commitment is change the way you part your hair! It is the most simple answer yet so many of my girls just refuse to accept it as an option! I know, I know, this is how you've always done it, I get it! It feels weird, looks dumb, has cowlicks, doesn't stay....I always liken it to driving on the wrong side of the road or backwards.

But really, it just takes a bit of practice and stepping out of your comfort zone. It doesn't have to be completely crazy,  just shake up your part a little or push it back at your crown.  Do it. You might like it!

And may I say if you are really looking for a challenge, try applying your makeup with the opposite hand! That is like riding a bike backwards with your eyes closed in sand! (Or not, but it was way more complicated than I thought it would be!)  you can watch it right now!

Ridiculous fun!

Cheers to driving backwards!

The Beauty of Words

I was reminded recently why I started writing my blogs. Just a few days ago I read an article link on Twitter (yeah, totally have no clue where or what site it was on...sorry!) The basic premise was that no matter how great your pictures are, your blog must still be well written. It isn't just what you say but how you say it that keeps traffic coming.

When I started, the whole point of this experiment was to reenergize my voice, to bring writing back to the front of my life. To spring back to my self. Soon, I realized all the other cool options that I could use for beauty blogging, like pictures and videos, and I was smitten with the ease of a quick post!

I love being able to post frequently, including fun visuals and my YouTube videos, but I want to remind myself that I am writing this blog for myself as well as for you! Which means using my words!

My hope is that you enjoy all the different ways my blog comes to you, and that you keep finding interesting reasons to visit each day (or week!) And thanks for taking a moment to read this blog!

Cheers to 1,000 words being worth a picture!

My New Old Hair! (Vintage hair tutorial)

Oh my goodness! I have entered my first YouTube contest!  I am so excited because I followed through with the goal I set for myself and had a blast while doing it! Yay, big girl!

The contest was hosted by several gurus (I found it on mysecretglambition 's channel) and it could be a tutorial of any type as long as it was Fall-inspired!  I, of course, had to add a touch of retro drama!  I loved the way it turned out, and I hope you do, too!

This would be an easy look for Halloween, too! Just add a poodle skirt and saddle shoes, and you are set!

Cheers to chasing dreams and faux-bangs!

Vintage hair!

I did this super fun vintage style for my newest video today! I actually entered my very first contest on YouTube, and I am soooo excited!

I will put the video up in my next post so you can see exactly how to get this look!

Cheers to "old" hair!

Lazy hair, Lumi Face

Today is a home day with my little guy but we had to take him back to the pediatrician to make sure his ear was all better. Yay! So I thought I'd try something other than my work makeup or regular at-home-mom makeup!

I used L'oreal True Match Lumi foundation in n4. Then I did the rest of my foundation routine and added a little highlight at my browbone with MAC Shroom, and along my facial high points with their Cream Colour Base in Shell.

I like the results, but it is now just after lunch and I am started to feel a little more shiny and a little less Lumi!

What is your go-to look? Matte or luminous?

Cheers to dew-ing your makeup!

Money or Brushes

You all know I looooove my makeup brushes, but did you know I also try not to spend a complete fortune on them? Some of my absolute favorite brushes are from my local dollar stores!

I value quality workmanship in makeup brushes, as well as comfort of use. Mostly, though, I want them to work well and feel great on my skin!

When looking at makeup brushes or makeup in general, sometimes trial and error are just the best methods in finding what really works for your lifestyle. And by lifestyle you know I mean budget, baby!

We all have our fave high and low budget finds in makeup and brushes. What are some of your favorite brands and why?

Cheers to feeling fancy, faces!

More Than Beauty

Good morning!  Thought I'd take a minute and share with you another part of my life...being a mama!  That's really the reason I do anything in my life, ever!  I have had a "mom blog" since before I ever started writing this beauty was the emotional birth to my public writing, actually.  Now I think I'm ready to share it with more readers.  It has a new title, so it matches the URL it's always had...What's Mom Say?

So feel free to poke around in this mama's head and heart!

End of Summer Beauty

With September on its way, I'm dreaming of comfy sweaters, cocoa, lipstick instead of gloss and...dry, sunbleached hair?!?! Patchy, spotted skin? Yes, my friends, you have been living it up all summer and your once-luscious locks and glowing skin have paid dearly for your raucous ways!

This is my plan for fixing my summered skin and hair, and face the fall with gusto!  And a cable-knit sweater with leggings...!

  1. Use a sulfate free, super-hydrating shampoo, conditioner and leave in daily treatment for my specific hair needs.  I am obsessed with Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde
  2. Use a facial product designed to help reduce fine lines, hyper pigmentation and breakouts (all that sunblock and peeling skin is major breakout fodder!)  I just started using Ole Henriksen 3 Little Wonders kit
  3. Exfoliate whole body with a yummy sugar or salt scrub (I want to try Fresh's Brown Sugar once I'm finished with my Philosophy Gingerbread Man) and moisturizer with a rich body cream ( I love L'Occitane Shea Butter Rich Body Cream)
  4. Use a self-tanner every other day to help keep a soft, golden glow safely into fall
Hope these tips were helpful for your own fall-prep plan!

Cheers to planning ahead!

How To Cut Hipster Bangs/Full Fringe

I don't know if we talk about this that much, but I am a professional hairstylist.  I still work behind the chair three days a week taking care of my awesome clients, some whom I've styled for a decade!  One of the things I know they will do, eventually, is hack at their in-between-cut too-long bangs.  Then I will have to fix them!  I offer complimentary bang trims between regular haircuts, but it isn't always easy getting in when you really need a fix!

I learned a long time ago that I would rather arm my girls with the necessary skills (we should all be able to take care of this ourselves if we must!) to achieve a decent fringe until the next time they see me, rather than walking around with jacked-up hair.  Bangs are a great way to change your overall look, but they do need maintenance to keep them looking, well, bangin'!

Here is a little tutorial I whipped up to teach you how to trim your fringe.  These techniques can be used for all types of bangs, just adjust your fingers accordingly!

Cheers to visible eyes,

Easy-Does-It Eyeliner

I love trying new things, but different can also be scary.  As we speak, I am eating the most delicious almond butter and jelly sandwich, in place of my tried and true standard, peanut butter and jelly.  I was a little nervous about trying it, but I really wanted to see what the fuss was all about.  And I loved it!  I may not replace peanut butter entirely, but now I have another go-to sandwich topper in my arsenal.

Same thing with eyeliner.  I know most of us started with that little stub of a pencil we confiscated from mom or big sis, or that Cover Girl automatic pencil purchased with glee before the first day seventh grade.  And we put just that little line on the outside bottom corner, or we smeared it thickly across the top lash line, leaving visible lid between liner and lashes.

And I know for most of us, it's still business as usual even decades later.  But sometimes, you should try the almond butter, you know?

Here's a little tutorial on easy ways to do eyeliner...powder, pencil and even liquid.  These are basic techniques that may help you experiment and see if there is another way you like your eyeliner.
Cheers to playing with your makeup or your lunch!

No-Beauty Rainy Day

Some days you just need to take a break from your beauty regimen. Today is my hair dryer, no makeup, not even an eyelash curl to be done on this visage! Rainy, cozy, family day.

We still need to feel comfortable in our own skins and to do that requires practice! Pick a day and be your plain-old self. Enjoy it. Then get done up the next day and truly enjoy that, as well.

Cheers to naked faces,

Victory Rolls and Pin Curls!

Vintage Hair: Victory Rolls and Pin Curls

This morning I filmed a tutorial on how to use pin curls and foam rollers to create a vintage, retro hairstyle!

I realized most of us have never worked with these old-school styling aids, and our finished styles are in no way like the polished, glamorous daily styles from generations gone by.

Today I created victory rolls, a style that was all the rage during the war, getting their name from the pursuit of, you guessed it, winning the war.

So many styles seem difficult, but really once you have the foundation, creating these looks is simple and fun.

I will have the video up ASAP, so until then,

Cheers to victorious pin curling!

Easy Retro Updo!

This video shows how easy it is to add a little retro glamour to your style...make the leap from a simple ponytail, girly!

I do this simple, retro style at least once a week, even if it's only at home.  You can try this with many variations; angle the roll to the side more, use it with a curly pony, put the bandana in more like the classic "Rosie the Riveter" style...the options are endless, but the basics are the same.
  • add body:  curl, tease, product
  • smooth and anchor:  soft-bristled brush or rattail comb and regular bobby pins work great
  • look fantastic!
Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect to be awesome!  My motto is if you try to hard, it never works.  Just roll with it (bahaha!) and you'll be Retro Glam in just a few minutes!

Cheers to bringin' sexy back!

Just trying to figure out all of the options I have at my fingertips with this iPad2. Seems my blog is the final frontier of what I want to conquer with it! I clicked onto the picture icon and found this photo I had taken awhile ago...if you don't know already, I am obsessed with vintage and retro styles. Here's to more history repeating itself!

Catching up, beauty!

Hello, my beauties! I have been busy lately, creating beautiful looks for my clients, taking my kids to the pool, and clearing out extra junk from my life. I have still been using up beauty products, but also giving items away that I still don't use myself. Today I even canceled another magazine sub so I don't have more and more clutter coming into my home and life! That was a difficult decision, sounds lame, yes, but I do feel relieved. I am still blonde blonde, and I do think I'll stay that way for summer, as well as keeping my locks growing. I will update a pic soon! I recently went to a Goldwell New York training, with my face educator, Mary B. We learned some fresh color techniques and some interesting cutting updates. All in all the day was super-energizing for me professionally. What kinds of summer plans do you have coming up? Any beauty changes in your near future? Would love to hear about them! Cheers to summer refreshments, of all varieties! L

A Bump in the Road...Zits.

Golden (flawless) glow...MIA, boo!
So I miss this skin, you know, from just a couple of months ago?  I know the big 3-5 is crrrrreeeeeeepin' up on me, but I did not intend to court adult-onset acne!  I don't think that is necessarily what is happening to me right now, but I am suffering from the worst case of bumps/pimples/annoying eruptions I have ever experienced in my life.  I have always felt grateful for good skin, as somehow I have been lucky in that area.  I have always had sincere empathy for my friends and clients who have had trouble with acne.  And now my heart really goes out to the girls and guys who suffer from the embarrassing effects of acne, in all its forms.
Ol' Faithful!
I am reaching for my favorite at-home peel again, but let me tell you what is going on, first.  For about the last three or four weeks, I have had multiple eruptions on my chin, at first, and then on my left cheek.  I have had the stray pimple on my chin almost monthly (damn you, menses!) for the last two decades!!!  But I have NEVER had more than one random pimple on my cheek every once in a great while before this last month.  I am talking, six or seven, concurrent, rotten, mean, ouchy zits, all over these areas for a solid month.  And then I try to "fix" them, treat them, cover them, ignore them, berate get the gist, right?  So frustrating!  What is going on here?

****FLASH***flash***FLASH***  Yeah, so almost one month ago, I started taking 1,000 mcg of Biotin daily, which, according to the Rexall bottle I have is, "an essential B vitamin that is involved in the intermediate metabolism of carbohydrates.*  Biotin also assists in protein and fat metabolism and supports healthy skin, hair and nails.*  *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.  This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease."

I started taking this supplement because I wanted to boost my hair and nail strength and growth.  And it totally seem(ed)s to be working.  With.  Just.  One.  Problem...Zits.  That nothing controls. (Elle Fowler, of said she had trouble with breakouts from this previously, but I thought, "Not me?!")

I know you're thinking...product overload?  Checked.  Cellphone attachment?  Checked.  Clean pillowcases?  Checked.  Midlife crisis?  Checked.  The only thing that I have changed from my normal life-routine is the supplement.  So I've stopped taking it.  It's only been two days since I quit, and I already have fewer new eruptions.  And I'm PMS-ing now.  With fewer zits.  That SENTENCE is weird to say, so that has to mean something, you know?

So I grabbed my REN peel, my Biore Ice acne cleanser, and my not-too-much-change-at-once philosophy and we'll see what happens next.  I am aiming for that golden glow, once more.  STAT!

Cheers to not thinking about acne,

Happy Birthday Hair and Makeup

Beautiful Birthday Girl!
You've all seen the transformation I did on Trina several months ago, right?  You can check that out here.   Well, for her birthday she wanted me to transform her again!  Oh my goodness, isn't she gorgeous?!?!?!  We had so much fun making her extra fancy for her special day.  Here is what I did:

  • foiled in blonde highlights using PaulMitchell Dual Purpose powder with 30 volume.
  • reshaped style using point-cutting for layers
  • applied AG Plastique extra hold volumizer from roots to ends; dried hair using my hands to apply tension and wrapping technique around head for smoothness.  Once about 90% dry, added direction and volume using large round brush
  • started with bare face
  • applied Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB cream with foundation brush; patted to remove excess
  • applied foundation with same brush;  patted off excess
  • contoured with matte bronzer under cheekbones; added warm pink blush at apples
  • softly highlighted tops of cheekbones, cupid's bow, bridge of nose and brow bones with powdered highlighter
  • used angled brush to push in MAC Carbon shadow at lash line and topped with thick line of black smudgy liner
  • buffed liner to create smoky finish; contoured and smudged with midtone brown/grey shadow; patted light-golden shadow to inside corner of lid
  • spritzed entire face with MAC fix+ to get rid of powdery look and set makeup
  • curled lashes and layered several coats of two different mascaras (better than falsies if you've never been comfortable in strip lashes!)
  • slicked on shimmery nude gloss
Then I finished her hair with the flatiron, spritzed dry shampoo into her roots, pulled PaulMitchell Dry Wax through her ends and sprayed with long-hold hairspray.  Wow, it sounds like sooo much more when I write it down!!  It didn't really take all that long to complete, but I think each step was important, since she would be going from my house straight through the night without touching up anything but her lips.

Love helping my girls get their glam on!!

Cheers to being fancy on your birthday (or EVERYDAY!!!)

Just a little note...(can't resist!!)

Sudsing up...

and saving face!
I have been locked into a self-inflicted clothing sort/purge/pack fiasco...I know I said I wouldn't be posting until I've finished, but I just couldn't resist any longer!!  I just needed to!  I feel better already!!

As I mentioned the other day, I haven't really been wearing anything on my face while I'm in closet lock-down, except to work, obvs!  Luckily I don't live near any paparazzi, so my bare face (though artfully disguised under large sunnies and a sun hat!) hasn't made the rounds in public chronicles!!

Alright, beauties, just wanted to check in.  Ooh, and I've passed 3,000 views on my blog...thank you!  Oh, and you can like my Facebook page now at .  Yes!!

Cheers to labor-intensive seasonal-clothes/too-small-kids'-clothes organization!

Hello, hiatus!

Just wanted to say hello and let you in on what I have been up to lately...reorganizing my family's clothing/laundry situation! Once I have a project on my mind it just weighs on me until I attack it. I have been avoiding it for far too long, hoping it would just go away, but you know what happens when you ignore a problem...ugh. So I have forced myself to pause in my blogging/extra curricular beauty adventures until I just get things done. I felt so preoccupied that I couldn't really get anything good down anyway, so I'm just going for it and should be back on track as my usual beauty-adventuress self in the blink of a heavily-mascaraed smokey eye!!! Cheers to beautiful-homemaking! L

Tangerine Tango, or Color of the Year!

Tangerine-tastic lips!
I am in LOVE with this Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Creme Lipstick!

How cute is this box?
The Color of The Year is a special, limited-edition color collection from Sephora, featuring Pantone's color pick for 2012, Tangerine Tango, aka 17-1463.  This capsule collections contains blushes, shadows, liners, glosses, polishes and even brushes, all inspired by this bright, tangy hue.
Luscious and creamy, this color pops!
Summer means bright lips, tips and toes, but this juicy shade makes a great alternative to a red statement lip no matter what the season.  Less-is-more beauties can still rock this color by tapping it on and blotting away the excess, or choosing the gloss version.  It is surprising how much this color warms up the face, making a lot of extra makeup unnecessary!

My summer forecast?  Super-hot, with a chance of sexy!

Cheers to Tangerine Tango,

Derbylicious Updo Tips!

This is Sally's finished hairstyle for the fabulous Kentucky Derby-themed party she attended Saturday night!  I got to go CRAZY with this style and she had NEVER gotten an updo before!!
Sally has beautiful, thick hair that just followed my every direction!  This was so much fun to create!

We tried her hat with and without her full, rocker fringe, and opted to braid it into the style instead of wearing it down.  This also gave her hat a little spot to call its own!
The braid continued around to incorporate the front right section of hair.

Fabulously Finished, waiting for the Derby!
We had such a great time getting Sally ready for her party.  We had the appointment scheduled a month ahead of time and took a few minutes to discuss her style options at her previous appointment.  Consider these ideas to make your next updo a success:
  • Wash your hair the day BEFORE and style as usual.  Fresh and clean hair is too slippery for an updo.  PLEASE do NOT go to your appointment with wet hair!  Your stylist is prepared to give you an updo not a complete blowout and then an updo!
  • Wear a shirt that you don't have to pull off over your finished style...a zippered or buttoned option makes things so much easier!
  • Talk to your stylist or the salon receptionist when you make your appointment to see if there are any other things you need to know before you come in.
  • Bring pictures of what you would like your hair to look like, but also bring in a picture of your dress!  This will give your stylist a strong style reference!
  • Try to be realistic with your expectations and requirements...your hair may not be easy to work with or your stylist may have an idea that would make you look extra beautiful!
  • If you are feeling miserable about how it's going SPEAK UP immediately...we can change directions in the beginning but not after the style is nearly done!
  • You may want to take an ibuprofen before your event...that tight hair and those bobby pins will feel less than pretty later in the evening (I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL...THIS IS JUST A TIP NOT MEDICAL ADVICE!)
This season is full of fun events!  Proms, graduations, weddings and Kentucky Derby fetes give us great opportunities to get all fancied up and try something new with our hair!  Yay!

Cheers to Updos and Fancy Events!
